Fluxus Box

Fluxus Box: Foam board, masking tape & spray paint 23.5"x 3.5" Artist Statement My Fluxus Box was inspired by the movie The Matrix. The Box itself is made up of smaller boxes stacked up over each other to represent pixels in computers. The smaller boxes are stacked unevenly to represent a glitch in a computer or in the matrix. The Box is also a shiny black to represent the leather that is often worn by characters in the movie. The sleek looking box is also a metaphor for the Matrix as hit hides the chaotic objects like the Matrix hides the true world from the people who are stuck in it. I made the following objects to go into my fluxus box. A pixilated cross because there are many religious symbols throughout the movie, especially Neo who has a lot of similar parallels to Jesus. Tarot cards to represent the movies constant theme of fate and destiny and whether or not your fate is laid out for you or if you decide it. A broken mirror to represent

Touch 2

Speaking of Touch "Language is steeped in metaphors of touch. We call our emotions feelings and we care most deeply when something "touches" us." Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses pg 70 Our emotions although not physical are described using words of touch. "She felt warm and sunny"is a way of describing a happy emotion. "She was such a hothead" is a way of describing anger. "She was feeling down" is a way of describing sadness. My sketch shows different emotions unified because although we feel emotions in a nonphysical way we are still able to describe them like they where physical objects.

Touch 1

The Hand "Throughout history, palm readers have chosen the hand as their symbolic link to the psyche and soul, as their raft through time. After all, the hand is action, it digs roads and builds cities, it throws spears and diaper babies." Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses pg 116 Our hands play such an important role in our lives. They get us ready in the morning, they open the door so we can walk outside into our lives. This piece is supposed to demonstrate the raft of time seen through the hands. There are layers of photos from my childhood that can be seen inside my hands.
