Fluxus Box

Fluxus Box: Foam board, masking tape & spray paint 23.5"x 3.5" Artist Statement My Fluxus Box was inspired by the movie The Matrix. The Box itself is made up of smaller boxes stacked up over each other to represent pixels in computers. The smaller boxes are stacked unevenly to represent a glitch in a computer or in the matrix. The Box is also a shiny black to represent the leather that is often worn by characters in the movie. The sleek looking box is also a metaphor for the Matrix as hit hides the chaotic objects like the Matrix hides the true world from the people who are stuck in it. I made the following objects to go into my fluxus box. A pixilated cross because there are many religious symbols throughout the movie, especially Neo who has a lot of similar parallels to Jesus. Tarot cards to represent the movies constant theme of fate and destiny and whether or not your fate is laid out for you or if you decide it. A broken mirror to represent

On Longing

Nostalgia cannot be sustained without loss. This is an image of my brother and I in highschool. Now we both go to college and dont see eachother often. This photo brings me alot of nostalgia because it reminds me of all the time i used to spend with Felix that I now don't. The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale. This is an image I took in a castle in Munich. You can clearly see how large the room is just by looking at how little the people in the photo appear. The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the three dimensional into the miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body. This is a photo of me taking a picture at a castle in Germany. By taking pictures of the places I visited, I took back with me my own souvenir of that place which I can go back and see the personal experience I had three. Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses pg 116 Our hands play such an important role in our lives. They get us ready in the morning, they open the door so we can walk outside into our lives. This piece is supposed to demonstrate the raft of time seen through the hands. There are layers of photos from my childhood that can be seen inside my hands.
